Food Safety Disclaimer
Last updated: July 6, 2026
Eatcircle is a marketplace — not a food producer
Eatcircle operates an online marketplace connecting buyers with independent home cooks (“Cooks”) who prepare and sell food for local pickup. Eatcircle is not a restaurant, food manufacturer, or catering service. Eatcircle does not prepare, handle, inspect, or control any food sold on the platform.
Home kitchen — not a licensed commercial kitchen
All food sold on Eatcircle is prepared in residential home kitchens. These kitchens are not inspected by Eatcircle or by a public health authority as a condition of listing. Every Cook self-attests at signup to following their local public health authority's guidelines for home food preparation (Region of Peel Public Health for Ontario v1). Buyers acknowledge this at every checkout via a mandatory disclosure checkbox.
Allergen disclosure
Eatcircle requires all 11 Health Canada priority allergens to be declared on every dish: peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten/wheat, soy, shellfish, fish, sesame, mustard, and sulphites. Each allergen must be labeled as “Contains,” “May contain,” or “None.” This disclosure is provided by the Cook and is not independently verified by Eatcircle. Buyers with severe allergies should contact the Cook directly before ordering. Eatcircle is not liable for undisclosed allergens or cross-contamination in a home kitchen environment.
Food handler certificate — optional, admin-reviewed
Cooks may optionally upload a food handler certificate issued by an accredited body (e.g., Region of Peel food handler course). Eatcircle staff review submitted documents for basic validity (non-expired, legible, matches declared issuing authority) and display a badge on the Cook's profile. This review does not constitute a health inspection, does not guarantee food safety, and does not make Eatcircle responsible for the Cook's compliance with any food safety regulation.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Eatcircle is not liable for any illness, injury, allergic reaction, property damage, or other harm arising from food sold on the platform. The Cook is solely responsible for compliance with all applicable food safety, health, and municipal regulations in their jurisdiction. Buyers purchase food from Cooks directly, with Eatcircle acting as a facilitating marketplace. Read the full Terms of Service for the complete liability framework.
Incident reporting
If you experience a food safety concern after an order, use the “Report a food safety concern” button on the order detail screen in the Eatcircle app. Reports with a severity of “Moderate” or “Hospitalization” trigger an immediate auto-pause of the Cook's listings. Our moderation team reviews within 24 hours. For medical emergencies, call 911 immediately — then report in the app.
